Toe Up Socks

Toe Up Socks

 Saturdays: January 6, 13, and 20, 2018 …12:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Cost: $60 (Cash only)

 plus materials purchased at Inua

Instructor: CJ

Learn to make a sock that fits you, without any Kitchener stitching.

This is a class for people who feel confident with their knit and purl stitches that want to go beyond scarves and caps. Also for people who are tired of socks that cost a small fortune and cut off the circulation to their feet.

I will be available prior to the first class to help with yarn and needle selection if you are overwhelmed with all the choices!

Supplies: You will need approximately 200 yards of sock yarn per sock (tall stocking 400 yds each). Any sock yarn must have been purchased at Inua.

1 set of 5 Double Pointed needles appropriate for yarn (read the yarn label).

Several stitch markers.

Instructions are included with class.

Optional:

Reinforcing yarn, this can be any fine-gauge superwash left-over yarn.

Small scissors or snips for clipping, if reinforcing.

Circular needle in the same size as your Double Points, any length, if you have one. You will not need it at the first class.

Recommendations:

Plan to make the first sock for yourself and as it requires some trying on, be prepared to pull off your footwear.

Everybody hates Gauge Swatches, but if you are unsure of your yarn/needle proportion, please consider making a small swatch (20-24 stitches across, 15-20 rows, stockinette stitch) so you can see whether your sock will be too limp or too tough. This is a good place to test drive reinforcing yarn you might want to use.

2-at-a-Time Socks (Cuff Down) Technique - 11/05

So, you’ve knit a sock or two, maybe even a pair of mittens, or a sleeve for a sweater. And the entire time, you thought… “what if I could work both socks/sleeves/mittens at the same time? Wouldn’t that be so much faster?”

Well, it probably isn’t any faster (after all, you are still knitting the same amount), but sometimes it’s easier. There may be less measuring to do, less mistakes being made because the second one doesn’t exactly match the first, etc. It’s a good technique to have in your knitting bag, and this class will teach you how to cast on two at a time and get knitting.

Granny Square Class - 10/23 & 10/30

Granny squares are square motifs crocheted in rounds working from the center outwards.  The traditional one is a double-crocheted square made with a series of chains and double-crocheted blocks.  Although particular color and pattern schemes for granny squares change with time, this class of motif is a staple among crocheters.  Multicolor granny squares are an effective way to use up small amounts of yarn left over from other projects and basic granny square motifs do not require advanced skills to execute.

Beginning Simple Shawl- 10/22, 11/05, & 11/19

This 2-part class will teach the basics of interpreting and trusting a written pattern and shaping a knitted wearable. It is appropriate for any level knitter but is easy enough for someone hoping to advance beyond dishcloths. It is forgiving and, best of all, it results in a shawl that may become your best friend. It is meant to be worn; keep that in mind when making fiber choices.
