Intro to Cables - "Habitat" Hat

Three Sundays: February 12, 19 and 26, 2017

1:00-4:00 pm at INUA Wool Shoppe

Cost is $60 plus materials, taught by Cathie Harms 

Limited to 12 students, two minimum

 

You know the basics of knitting, but are you getting tired straight stitches?

Are you starting to dream about Aran or Fisherman Knit Cabled sweaters? 

Take it one step at a time and start here!

This class is for knitters who know how to cast on, knit and purl in the round, and decrease. You will learn how to use cables to create a beautiful hat! Using worsted weight yarn, you’ll be done in no time! Jared Flood is one of the most popular designers right now, and we have to purchase his pattern for “Habitat” on line for $6.00. You can purchase the pattern at home or at INUA and bring it to class from the link below 

Skills Needed:

  1. Knit & purl stitches
  2. Knitting & purling in the round
  3. Be able to read English and perform relatively fine motor skills with your hands.

Techniques you will master:

{C}¨     Cables

{C}¨     Using a Cable needle

{C}¨     Decreasing (knit two together)

Materials Needed (to be purchased at Inua during Class 1):

  1. Your copy of the Habitat pattern (can be purchased at Inua or at home)
  2. 140 yards worsted weight solid color yarn (Malabrigo, DIC, Cascade Greenland or 220, Lamb’s Pride, etc.)
  3. If you don’t already own them: Needles: Size 7, 8, 9 (circular @ 16” or 32”, double pointed size 8 or 9 if you opt for 16” needles), cable needles (or a smaller gauge dpn)
  4. Magnetic chart board or post-it tape to keep track of your row
  5. Row counter

Things to bring from home:

  1. Your copy of the Habitat pattern, can be purchased at Inua or at home
  2. Needles size 7, 8 & 9 in 16” circ, or 32” circ, size 8 or 9 (depending on gauge) dpns if you opt for a 16” circ, cable needles (or a smaller gauge dpn)
  3. Your other knitting equipment (stitch markers, darning needle, scissors etc.)
  4. Reading glasses (if needed)
  5. A notebook (optional)
  6. Questions

To register for a class, stop by the shop or call (907) 479-5830. ALL CLASSES MUST BE PAID IN FULL AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. CLASS FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Teachers will be available before class to help with purchase of yarn and other materials for the class and INUA staff are always happy to help.
