Stranded Two Color Hat

So you know the basics of knitting, but are you getting tired of solids and stripes? Are you starting to covet knitted items with Fair Isle or Norwegian color patterns? Here’s your chance to learn the wonders of two-color knitting!

If you know the basic knit stitch, you can learn to make a beautiful stranded hat! Make several for Christmas presents - perfect for Alaskan winters!

Skills Needed:

  • Knitting & purling
  • Knitting in the round
  • Decreases
  • Be able to read English and perform relatively fine motor skills with your hands.

You'll learn these techniques:

  • Two color cast on.
  • Knit in the round with Magic Loop.
  • Stranded color work.

Materials Needed:

  • 1.5 oz of worsted weight “color changing” yarn, Noro Kuryeon or Silk Garden works well – wool or wool blend preferred.
  • 1.5 oz worsted weight solid color for contrast (Lamb’s Pride, Dream in Color, Cascade 220 works well).
  • Needles: Size 7 or 8 (or what you need to get a gauge of 6 st/in) circular needle at least 28”.
  • Magnetic chart reader (recommended but not required).
  • Miscellaneous gadgets, and other tools (if desired).
  • Pattern will be provided.

Things to Bring From Home:

  • DPNs or circular needles, size US 7 or 8 (what you need to get a gauge of 6 stitches per inch.
  • Reading glasses (if needed).
  • A notebook (optional).
  • Questions!

 

To register for a class, stop by the shop or call (907) 479-5830. ALL CLASSES MUST BE PAID IN FULL AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION. CLASS FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Teachers will be available before class to help with purchase of yarn and other materials for the class and INUA staff are always happy to help.
